Expectations for the German labor market moved into positive territory in November after six months of negative forecasts, according to a survey published today and cited by BTA.

The Nuremberg Institute for Employment Research reported that its monthly labor market index rose 0.3 points to 100.5, climbing marginally above a neutral 100.

The barometer is an early indicator of labor market conditions.

All German employment agencies were asked about their expectations for the next three months.

According to the survey, the component predicting the unemployment rate rose by 0.3 points to 97.7 points in November.

Job demand, which the employment component of the barometer measures, worsened by 0.2 points to 103.3 points.

"Despite the pressure of the energy crisis, the German labor market maintains a slightly positive outlook," said Enzo Weber, head of the institute's forecasting and macroeconomic analysis division.

"A stable labor market helps avoid a severe recession," he said.
