The US government has eased some oil sanctions against Venezuela in an effort to bolster renewed talks between the government of President Nicolas Maduro and the opposition, the Associated Press reported.

The Treasury Department is allowing Chevron to resume "limited" energy production in Venezuela after years of sanctions that have sharply limited oil and gas profits flowing into Venezuelan coffers.

Talks between Maduro's government and the opposition resumed today in Mexico after more than a year of hiatus.

It remains to be seen whether they will take a different path than the previous rounds of negotiations, which did not lead to an easing of the political deadlock in the country, notes BTA.
