A former KGB officer called the head of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin, "a complete lunatic" and listed his miscalculations regarding the war against Ukraine.

The retired KGB officer of the USSR, Volodymyr Popov, who lives in Canada, said this in an interview with the "GORDON" publication.

"Ukraine will win the war with Russia, the attack on it is a miscalculation of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin. (...) To start this war, it was necessary to simply lose one's mind, in my deep conviction. Well, first of all, there was no reason for this both in Putin and in Russia. And without that, they shamelessly seized Crimea and the east of Ukraine, so to speak. This is primarily, in my opinion, Putin's imperial ambitions," said Popov.

According to Popov, Russia was not ready for a large-scale attack on Ukraine.

The ex-KGB officer called the move to Kyiv "a scam" without a clear program of action, counting on the fact that Ukraine would make such a decisive and courageous fight back.

"Undoubtedly, there was a calculation on the weakness of Ukraine as such - both the economy and the army - as it seemed to the Russian leadership, in particular to Putin himself. And that's why all this madness began," Popov said.

He emphasized that now Ukraine is winning and will certainly win.

He recalled that during an offensive, usually the attacking side must have an advantage in all indicators, starting with manpower, at least three times, and at the time of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the troops of both sides "were roughly equal."

"And to capture one of the largest European countries with a population of 40 million... Moreover, even if we imagine that this capture turned out to be successful, it is simply impossible to keep this territory under our influence. What kind of forces are needed... It is just to leave he had to be out of his mind, which is what Putin did. He showed that he is a complete madman. There is no other way to call him," Popov said.

He emphasized that Putin does not care about the human sacrifices of either Ukraine or Russia.

According to him, Russia's economy is also falling.

So, the leader of the Kremlin will soon be "deposed and cursed": both the Ukrainian people and those living on the territory of Russia.

Earlier, Russian oppositionist and publicist Andriy Piontkovskyi said that Ukraine will receive ATACMS shells and other weapons necessary for victory from the USA.
