NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called on allies to step up military support for Ukraine to prevent Russian President Vladimir Putin from bringing Ukraine to its knees over the winter.

He stated this in an interview with Welt.

The Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance noted that Putin reacts to defeats in the war with "greater brutality", as evidenced by missile strikes on Ukraine's energy system, which is critically important in the cold season.

"Putin is trying to use winter as a weapon.

But he will not succeed in this," Stoltenberg is convinced.

The NATO Secretary General noted that Ukraine's position in future negotiations will depend on Ukraine's success on the battlefield.

"We can strengthen Ukraine's position at the negotiating table if we provide the country with military support.

The best way to support peace is to support Ukraine," he emphasized.

Stoltenberg called on all Alliance partners to increase aid to Ukraine to help Ukrainians defend their right to self-defense.

He especially emphasized the role of Germany.

According to him, "arms supplies from Germany save lives", in particular, German air defense systems will help protect homes, schools and hospitals from Russian missiles.

The NATO Secretary General noted that the increase in food and electricity bills in European countries is not too great a price.

"We must remember that the people of Ukraine pay with their blood every day," he noted.

Stoltenberg emphasized that Ukraine's defeat in this war would mean that authoritarian regimes would continue to use violence to achieve their goals.

"It could mean more war and more suffering.

It would make our world even more dangerous.

It is in our own interests for Ukraine to win," concluded the Secretary General of the Alliance.

We will remind you that the Kremlin hoped that the missile strikes on November 23 would completely shut down Ukraine's energy system and it would not be able to recover, but they miscalculated again.
