President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi commemorated the anniversary of the

Holodomor

in Ukraine.

"Ukrainians have gone through very terrible things. And despite everything, they have preserved their ability to disobey and their love of freedom. Once they wanted to destroy us with hunger, now with darkness and cold. We will not be broken. Our fire will not go out. We will defeat death again," he wrote.

Today, November 26, victims of the 20th century Holodomor are remembered in Ukraine.

Memorial Day is celebrated annually on the fourth Saturday of November on the basis of presidential decrees of 1998 and 2007.

In the 20th century, Ukrainians survived three Holodomors: 1921-1923, 1932-1933 and the famine of 1946-1947.

The greatest was the famine of 1932-1933 - it is called the genocide of the Ukrainian people, carried out by the regime of Joseph Stalin.

According to various estimates, about 4.5 million Ukrainians died then.

To date, 22 states have officially recognized the Holodomor in Ukraine in 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people.
