The Orthodox holiday of November 26 is the day of memory of John Chrysostom

On November 26,

the memory of John Chrysostom is

commemorated .

What do we know about this day?

John was born in Antioch in the family of an official and received an excellent education.

The young man early began to study the Holy Scriptures and soon accepted Christianity, and then monasticism.

The young man was considered a worthy candidate for the position of bishop, but he avoided the position, preferring life in the desert.

At this time, he wrote "Six words about the priesthood", "Comparison of the power of wealth and royal advantages with the true and Christian love of monastic life" and other works.

Returning to Antioch, John devoted several years to the creation of new theological works: "On Providence", "Books on virginity", "To a young widow".

Soon John was ordained a presbyter and entrusted with the duty of carrying the Word of God to people.

He turned out to be a brilliant preacher and received the nickname Chrysostom from the congregation.

For twenty years, twice a week, and sometimes every day, Ivan preached in the temple.

At the same time, he wrote interpretations of many books of the Scriptures, as well as many conversations, sermons, and praises of the saints.

After becoming the Patriarch of Constantinople in 397, Ivan was actively involved in the spiritual improvement of the priesthood.
