China reported 35,183 new cases of infection with the coronavirus in the past 24 hours.

Of those, 3,474 were symptomatic and 31,709 were asymptomatic, health authorities said.

Thus, the number of new infections for the third day in a row is a record, reported Reuters.

Metropolises continue to struggle to contain outbreaks.

The newly discovered cases are mainly concentrated in the southern city of Guangzhou and southwestern Chongqing.

In Guangzhou, a thriving city with a population of nearly 19 million, 361 new symptomatic cases of local transmission of the virus and 7,058 asymptomatic cases were registered over the past 24 hours, compared to 257 symptomatic and 7,267 asymptomatic cases in the previous day, local authorities said.
