November 24, 2022 - Thursday.

274th day of the war in Ukraine.

What a church holiday today, November 24

According to the religious calendar, November 24 is

the day of memory of the holy martyrs Victor and Stefanida

.

They were executed because of their unwillingness to renounce Christianity.

Saint Victor served in the Roman army during the reign of Marcus Aurelius.

The warlord demanded that his soldiers renounce their religion during the persecution of Christians.

But Viktor firmly stood his ground.

For this he was subjected to cruel torture.

The astonishment of the executioners knew no bounds when they saw that the wounds on the warrior's body did not appear, and he himself healed the blind with his prayers.

Stefanida was the wife of one of the executioners.

She also saw these miracles and openly declared that she wanted to convert to Christianity.

For this, they grabbed her, tied her between two bent palm trees and tore her apart.

And Viktor was beheaded at that time.

November 24 is also another Orthodox holiday -

the day of memory of Reverend Feodor Studit

.

He devoted his entire life to the Christian faith, despite numerous exiles and tortures.

He was born in 758 in a wealthy family.

Even before he got married and began a monastic life, he received a fairly good education in Constantinople.

Even after Theodore leaves for the monastery in Sakkudian, he continues to carefully study the Holy Scriptures.

Soon he was appointed abbot there.

Saint Theodore discovered the criminal actions of Tsar Constantine, who sent his wife to the monastery to marry a relative.

For this, Feodor was imprisoned, brutally tortured, and then exiled to Thessaloniki.

After the death of Tsar Feodor, he was released, and the Studio Monastery was placed under his control.

But the rulers continued to persecute Theodore.

He was able to return to Constantinople only in 820.

But he, together with several disciples, settled on Cape Akrit.

He died there in 826.

What a day today is in Ukraine and the world

In the USA it is

Thanksgiving

.

The holiday always falls on the last Thursday of the last autumn month.

This is a big national secular holiday that has a religious connotation.

It has been officially celebrated in the USA since 1789.

Baked turkey must be prepared for the festive table.

The whole family gathers behind him.

In Canada, Thanksgiving is also celebrated, but the date falls on the end of October.

This holiday was also celebrated by the pilgrim fathers who came to North America to settle here forever.

Therefore, it is one of the most important days for Americans.

On November 24,

the International Day of "Carmener" wine

is celebrated .

The holiday was founded in 2014 in honor of the 20th anniversary of the revival of this variety.

A long time ago, the Carmenère grape was considered the most popular in the Bordeaux province.

It was appreciated by winemakers for its unsurpassed notes of plums, cedar, and mint.

At that time, neither Merlot nor Sauvignon could compare with it.

But in the 60s of the last century, during the infection of plantations with the phylloxera aphid, Carmenère was lost in Bordeaux.

Fortunately, Chilean winemakers were able to export several seedlings in advance and grew them in their homeland, believing that it was one of the Merlot varieties.

As far back as 1994, the French scientist Jean-Michel Boursicot studied the DNA of this grape and found out that it was Carmenere.

So a unique variety was revived.

Even today, it is considered one of the most important works in the history of science.

It was she who started the whole scientific theory, which later came to be called "Darwinism".

The idea to celebrate the International Day of Evolution arose in the 90s of the last century.

However, it was officially introduced only in 2001 after the creation of the non-profit organization "Darwin Day Program".

In parallel with this holiday, the

International Day of Science and Humanism

or

Darwin Day

is also celebrated .

Walrus Day

is celebrated annually on November 24

, which was established in 2008 at the request of the World Wildlife Fund.

Walruses are one of the largest mammals living in the northern part of the Earth.

It is at the end of autumn that their migration takes place, when they leave their homes near the Chukchi Sea and go to the Bering Strait for the winter.

The purpose of the holiday is to draw attention to the problem of decreasing the population of walruses in nature.
