[Reporter Wang Rongxiang/Kaohsiung Report] Forest City Association invites all counties, cities, and mayor candidates in Taiwan to sign the letter of commitment for urban greening and tree protection. Candidates for City Council signed on to support the creation of an Urban Greening Bureau and a Green Policy Committee chaired by the Mayor.

The association stated that the jointly signed appeals include 1. The establishment of a first-level unit, the Urban Greening Bureau (Park Bureau), and more than 60% of the staff are greening professionals.

2. Follow the example of the Singapore Garden City Action Committee and establish a Green Policy Committee chaired by the mayor.

3. Urban shade, biodiversity, and green coverage will increase by 10%.

4. Park ecology: 70% of the tree shade, 30% of the large park ecological area.

5. Tree-shaded streets, one more street in each administrative district, and existing tree-shaded streets shall be protected.

6. Tree pruning and care upgrades.

7. The protection of old trees is based on the revision of the law in Taipei, and a dedicated unit has been established.

8. Greening and ecological manpower increased by 50%.

9. Establish a tree electronic health insurance card system (different from the current electronic ID card).

The association stated that Kaohsiung City has undergone the rotation of blue and green political parties in recent years, but no matter who is in power in the city government’s public affairs system, there are problems of improper pruning and improper engineering that destroy trees and green spaces. There are only 23 greening professionals involved in the management of the street trees in the park. The lack of professional manpower has led to many problems.

The association affirmed that three mayoral candidates, including Chen Qimai (DPP), Ke Zhien (KMT), and Zeng Yinli (no party), signed the tree protection and greening commitment. The signing only changed 0.5 articles, and changed the first-level unit of our request for the establishment of the Urban Greening Bureau (Park Bureau) to an open option for both the division of the second-level unit and the first-level bureau. In the future, Kaohsiung City may see the Urban Greening Bureau. established.

In addition, there are 20 high-level city councilor candidates who have fully signed the letter of commitment. If the greening political opinion drafted by the Gaodu League also includes these nine major appeals, there will be as many as 50 councilor candidates who agree with the appeal, accounting for 50% of the candidates for the election. 38%, which shows that Kaohsiung people attach great importance to tree protection and urban greening.

The detailed list of signatures can be found on the Forest City Association fan page, official website and the list of signatures of city councilors.
