West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday that people should ensure that their names are included in the voter list, otherwise they will be sent to detention camps in the name of National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Banerjee said, "The work of updating and correction is going on in the voter list. This process will continue till December 5. I urge all the people that your name should be there in the voter list, otherwise you will be sent to the detention camp by taking your name in the NRC." Will go."

The chief minister said, "Sometimes they (common people) are told that they are not Indian citizens, but if they are not, how did they vote? You became PM because of our votes and today you are saying that What do you mean you will give us citizenship rights? Aren't you insulting us?" 

Earlier this month, West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Sukanta Majumdar said the Citizenship (Amendment) Act will be implemented in the state and if Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee opposes it, it will amount to challenging the country's sovereignty. Will happen.

Speaking to ANI, Majumdar had said, "The Citizenship (Amendment) Act has already been passed in both the Houses of the Parliament. Now it is with the Central Government. It will be implemented across the country. If Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee If she opposes it, it means she is challenging the sovereignty of the country. CAA will be implemented in Bengal. If she doesn't want CAA, it means she doesn't want refugees to become citizens."

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had insisted that she would never allow the CAA to be implemented in West Bengal.

He further alleged that the BJP is making rhetoric on CAA and National Register of Citizens (NRC) with an eye on the upcoming Gujarat assembly elections.

In a series of allegations against the BJP, the Trinamool Congress supremo said the ruling party at the Center was trying to instigate separatism in West Bengal by raising the demand for a separate state.

She will never allow the division of Bengal.

The 2019 Act amended the Citizenship Act, 1955, which makes illegal immigrants eligible for citizenship if they (a) belong to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi or Christian communities, and (b) are from Afghanistan, Bangladesh or Are from Pakistan.

This is applicable only to expatriates who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.

As per the amendment, some areas of the Northeast have been exempted from the provision.
