Today, November 23, IAEA
Director General
Rafael Grossi met with Rosatom CEO Oleksiy Likhachev in Istanbul.
The parties will discuss the creation of a security zone around the ZNPP.
This was announced on the IAEA's Twitter page.
"The Director General of the IAEA met today in Istanbul with the Russian delegation led by the Director General of Rosatom, Oleksiy Likhachev, for consultations on operational aspects related to safety at the Zaporizhia NPP in Ukraine," the message reads.
Russian shelling of the nuclear power plant
On the morning of November 20, the Russian invaders
again shelled the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
At least 12 "arrivals" at the site of the Zaporizhzhya NPP were recorded there.
The Director General of the IAEA
"appealed to both sides of the conflict"
to agree and implement a nuclear safety and security zone around the nuclear power plant as soon as possible to avoid a nuclear disaster due to shelling.
At the same time, the Russians
do not allow IAEA experts to the Zaporizhzhya NPP
after the shelling.
In this way, the occupiers hide evidence of their crimes and want to blame Ukraine for shelling, says Energoatom.
On November 21, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a telephone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, during which the parties
discussed the importance of demilitarization of the
Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
The next day, November 22, Zelenskyi held another meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, during which they
discussed the protection of Ukraine's energy infrastructure facilities
.
