During her visit to Canada, Svetlana Tsikhanovskaya

met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the country,

Melanie Jolie,

with whom she discussed human rights violations in Belarus, complicity of the Lukashenka regime in the war against Ukraine, and support for the democratic movement.

"Thank you, Svetlana, for your leadership.

Canada is next to you," wrote Melanie Jolie after the conversation with Tikhonovskaya.

Tsikhanovskaya, in turn, confirmed "Canada's firm support for free and democratic Belarus" and thanked Jolie for the "warm meeting".

Tsikhanovskaya also noted that she welcomes Canada's decision to introduce a new package of sanctions against companies and individuals who support terror against Belarusians and Putin's war against Ukraine.

announced the new sanctions .

"Canada supports the leader of the Belarusian opposition Svetlana Tsikhanovskaya and the democratic movement in Belarus.

This week, by welcoming her to Canada, we are taking further steps to put even more pressure on the Belarusian leadership," Trudeau said.

"Canada imposes sanctions against 22 Belarusian officials, including those involved in the deployment and transportation of Russian military personnel and equipment that participated in the invasion of Ukraine.

"Canada also imposes sanctions on 16 Belarusian companies related to the military industry, technologies, engineering, banking and railway transportation," the politician wrote.
