Spain will send at least 130 soldiers and eight F-18 jets to Romania next month to reinforce NATO's eastern flank, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and his Romanian counterpart Nicolae Chuca said at a joint press conference, BTA and Reuters reported.

Spain also reaffirmed its support for Romania's "immediate" and "comprehensive" accession to the Schengen area, according to a joint statement by the two prime ministers, published on the occasion of the first joint meeting of the governments of the Romania and Spain, reported Agerpress.

The two countries want to reach an agreement within the framework of the European Pact on Migration and Asylum, which reflects the principle of fair sharing of responsibilities and solidarity.

Spain reiterates its support for the rapid and full integration of Romania in the Schengen area and, like Romania, reaffirms its commitment to support the development of a secure space with open internal borders that allows the continuous free movement of people, the document signed by the two prime ministers.
