Silk Way West Airlines has signed a contract with GE Aerospace to purchase a total of sixteen GE9X and GE90 engines to power its newly ordered long-haul Boeing aircraft.

The new engines, which are the most powerful models in the world, will contribute to the sustainability goals of the Azerbaijan cargo airline by reducing fuel consumption.

Silk Way West Airlines recently announced the purchase of two Boeing 777-8F aircraft that will be equipped with GE9X engines, and will also purchase additional GE90 engines for the five Boeing 777F aircraft on order in April 2021.

This order consists of a total of five GE9X and eleven GE90 engines and will further contribute to the modernization of the carrier's cargo fleet.

The GE9X is the most powerful aircraft engine in history and the quietest model ever produced by GE.

This will reduce fuel consumption by up to ten percent compared to the GE90-115B, and like all GE commercial engines, the GE9X and GE90 run on any environmentally sustainable aviation fuel.

Thus, the new engines will not only improve Silk Way West Airlines' operational performance, but also support its strategy to increase the sustainability of its cargo transportation.

At the signing ceremony, Silk Way Group President Zaur Akhundov emphasized the importance of the relationship with GE Aerospace and said: "We are pleased to continue our long-term successful cooperation with GE Aerospace. The signing of this agreement reflects the strengthening of our relationship. Thanks to this, Silk Way West Airlines has the highest emission and noise With a more efficient fleet that meets noise standards, we will move forward with confidence into a sustainable future. We believe that the expansion of this partnership will help us meet our long-term sustainability strategy, as well as fulfill our environmental commitments and continuously improve the services provided to our valued customers."

Kathy McKenzie, president and CEO of GE Aerospace's Commercial Engine Operations, said, “The GE9X engine offers a combination of performance and fuel efficiency unmatched in its class.

We are proud to strengthen our relationship with Silk Way West Airlines as they continue to modernize their fleet for cargo operations.”
