The medical guarantee program covers men's health support services: from preventive examinations at the family doctor to prostate cancer treatment in specialized medical institutions.

This is reported by the National Health Service of Ukraine.

"The first adviser in case of any health problems is the family doctor. He is the one who monitors the general state of health of the patients and conducts preventive examinations," experts note.

Preventive examinations for men: who is at risk

Regular professional examinations should be carried out, especially if you belong to risk groups (men over 40 years old).

After all, oncological diseases in the early stages often have no obvious symptoms.

Examinations allow detecting oncology in the early stages and increase the chances of recovery.

Urgent examinations: what symptoms should alert

Contact your doctor immediately at the first signs of prostate cancer:

  • problems with urination

  • pain in the back, hip or pelvis.

The doctor will evaluate the symptoms and, if necessary, order a blood test for prostate-specific antigen (PSA).

If necessary, the family doctor or therapist will prescribe

a referral to a urologist

.

When applying with a referral from a family doctor, the appointment is free.

If there is an indication, the urologist or family doctor will provide a referral for early diagnosis of neoplasms.

For example,

prostate ultrasound, rectal examination, biopsy

, etc.

Six priority studies for early diagnosis of oncology have been allocated to the medical guarantee program.

Relevant for men are:

  • colonoscopy — examination of the intestine;

  • gastroscopy — examination of the stomach;

  • bronchoscopy — examination of the bronchi;

  • cystoscopy — examination of the urethra and bladder.

The following are free for the patient:

  • the procedure itself with anesthesia;

  • histological examination of the taken material if necessary;

  • analysis and description of research results.

Patients can undergo these tests free of charge in institutions that have a contract with the National Health Service.

You can find the nearest medical institution that has a contract with the NSHU by calling the contact center of the NSHU

at number 16-77.

If a patient is diagnosed with a neoplasm, the development of the situation may be different, it all depends on the patient's condition.

From active observation without interventions to treatment with drugs, surgery and radiation or chemotherapy.

We will remind you that

cancer of the prostate, or prostate gland

, is a malignant neoplasm that develops from the epithelium of the prostate gland.

This type of oncology is considered the most common disease among men.
