A monument to Fidel Castro was erected in Moscow.

According to APA's Moscow correspondent, the monument was opened by the presidents of Russia and Cuba, Vladimir Putin and Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez.

"We have gathered here in the square named after Fidel Castro to unveil the monument to this outstanding statesman and politician. Fidel Castro, the founder of the modern Cuban state, dedicated his whole life to the selfless struggle for the celebration of the people's ideas. He is rightly the brightest of the turbulent, dramatic 20th century. and is considered one of the most charismatic leaders. Fidel Castro was a truly legendary figure," said Putin, speaking at the opening ceremony.

Diaz-Canel thanked the Russian side and the sculptors for the creation of the monument.

"The personality of the Commander-in-Chief is closely related to the friendship between our peoples and governments that has been strengthening for more than 60 years. Fidel understood very well the essence of brotherly relations that unite our countries," the Cuban president said in his speech.
