In Scotland, archaeologists using a metal detector found one of the largest hoards of medieval coins.

The find is believed to be worth hundreds of thousands of pounds on the antiquities market.

The Daily Express writes about it.

In total, more than 8,000 coins were found.

They come from different countries: from England and Ireland to the states of continental Europe.

They belong to the 13th-14th centuries.

Last year, valuable artefacts were discovered in Dumfriesshire.

Most of the coins are pennies from Edward I and II.

They are currently trying to distribute the coins according to the catalogs.

For this, each of them is photographed, measured and weighed.

"This is an absolutely amazing find. After the first discovery, this place was excavated by the Treasure Hunter Division together with archaeologists from the National Museum of Scotland," said one of the experts.

This treasure is one of the largest found in the country since the 19th century.

We will remind, in Newfoundland (province of Canada), archaeologists discovered a special artifact.

A hundred-year-old gold coin was found here.

The coin

is planned to be put on display after examination.
