Jailed Delhi minister Satyendar Jain on Monday filed an application in a Delhi court seeking a direction to the Tihar authorities to provide them food items according to their religious beliefs.

Jain's lawyer gave this information. There is a possibility of hearing on this application on Tuesday before Special Judge Vikas Dhall.

In the application, a request has been made to direct the jail authorities to immediately conduct a medical examination of the minister.

Jain's counsel Mohd Irshad said that Jain was not being provided basic food and medical facilities inside the jail. The application alleged that since the day of his arrest on May 31, he has not been able to visit any Jain temple and Being a deep believer in Jainism, he observes a religious fast and does not take cooked food, pulses, grains and milk products." The application claimed that he "strictly follows Jainism". '

The petition claimed, "For the last about six months, he has been living only by eating fruits, vegetables, seeds and dry fruits or dates."

He is purchasing this from his quota of ration available for all the prisoners.

Meanwhile, he got injured in the jail, due to which there was a serious spinal injury, which was treated by Lok Nayak Jaiprakash Hospital.

He also has problems in his lungs, which is a post-Covid symptom. '''''''' The application states that for the last 12 days, the jail administration has stopped providing basic food items to Jain as per his religious beliefs.

The application further states that withholding food items during religious fasting is "illegal", "arbitrary" and "oppression".

The application states that Jain was scheduled to go for a medical check-up, including an MRI scan, on October 21.

Jain was arrested in a money laundering case on the basis of a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) FIR registered against him in 2017 under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

On November 17, the court had denied bail to Jain and two others in the case.
