The Prosecutor General also noted that more than 20 so-called torture chambers were discovered - places where, according to the investigation, detained citizens of Ukraine were kept and tortured.

Most bodies were found in the Kharkiv region.

There, however, the offensive of the Ukrainian troops ended successfully earlier than in Kherson, where, according to the Prosecutor General, the work to identify the victims is just beginning.

Kostin did not specify the cause of death of people whose bodies were found in the territories previously occupied by the Russian military.

According to the latest information, more than 45,000 criminal cases about alleged crimes committed by the Russian military are being investigated in Ukraine.

So far, only a small number have come to trial, 12 previously captured soldiers were sentenced.

  • According to the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine, more than 8,300 Ukrainian civilians, including 437 children, have died since the beginning of the Russian invasion at the end of February.

These are incomplete data, as not all victims in the territories currently controlled by Russia are taken into account.

Most of the dead, according to preliminary information, were victims of shelling.
