Vice President Iliana Yotova

Iliana Malinova Yotova is a Bulgarian politician, the 5th Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria, will participate today and tomorrow in the XVIII Francophonie Summit, which will be held at Fr.

Djerba, Tunisia, reported from the press office of the head of state.

The theme of the forum is "Connectivity in diversity: digitalization, a vector for development and solidarity in the Francophone area". 

In the Bulgarian delegation for the forum is the official minister of foreign affairs, Nikolay Milkov. 

Vice President Yotova will take part in discussions "Citizens' mistrust" and "Women and young people - priority goals of Francophonie".

Bulgaria was accepted as a full member of the International Organization of La Francophonie during the Fifth Summit of French-speaking countries in Port Louis, Mauritius, which took place from October 16 to 18, 1993. Bulgaria was represented by President Zhelyu Zhelev.

The International Organization of La Francophonie was established in 1970 as the Agency for Cultural and Technical Cooperation.

On March 20, 1970, in Niamey, Niger, representatives of 21 countries signed a convention to establish the Agency for Cultural and Technical Cooperation at the initiative of three African heads of state - Léopold Sedar Senghor of Senegal, Habib Bourguiba of Tunisia and Hamani Diori of Niger.

In 1997, the Statute (Charter) of Francophonie was adopted.

In 1998, the Agency adopted the name Intergovernmental Agency for Francophonie, and in 2005 - International Organization of Francophonie.

As of 2022, 88 countries are members of the organization.
