[Instant News/Comprehensive Report] The Finnish government announced that it will spend 2023 to build a fence on the border with Russia to strengthen border security and control future immigration from Russia.

According to comprehensive foreign media reports, the Finnish government announced on the 17th that it will build a fence on the eastern border with Russia in 2023. The project will cost 139 million euros (contract NT$4.4 billion).

The border between Finland and Russia is 1,300 kilometers long, and most of it is covered by forests. In the future, Finland will build fences in some border areas to deal with the influx of asylum-seeking immigrants from Russia.

The Finnish Border Guard stated that in the future, 130 to 260 kilometers of fences will be built, mainly in the border areas in southeastern Finland, and will be equipped with surveillance equipment and patrol roads.

Many Western countries closed their airspace to Russia due to the Ukrainian-Russian War, and the Finnish border became one of the few options for Russians to enter Europe.

But Finland closed its border with Russia after Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a partial mobilization order in September that prompted many Russians to try to flee across the border.
