Rahul Gandhi is going to reach Madhya Pradesh next week under Bharat Jodo Yatra.

The order banning cellphones inside the sanctum sanctorum of the famous Mahakal temple in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain has sparked a political controversy.

The Congress has alleged that the move is aimed at blunting the edge of party leader Rahul Gandhi's visit early next month.

Ujjain District Collector Ashish Singh is the chairman of the management committee of Mahakal temple.

Ashish Singh said that several decisions taken recently by the committee in consultation with priests include banning cellphones inside the sanctum sanctorum.

Many devotees have complained about those filming videos for social media inside the temple.

However, former minister and senior Congress MLA Sajjan Singh Verma said, "This new rule shows the real mindset of the BJP. BJP leaders are scared of the growing popularity of Rahul Gandhi. This new rule has exposed this, but It will neither have any effect on Rahul Gandhi nor on Congress.

The ruling BJP denied any link between the decision to ban mobile phones inside the sanctum sanctorum and Rahul Gandhi's visit to the temple.

Home Minister Narottam Mishra said, "This decision was not taken by the government.

The committee of the temple has taken.

It is wrong to make political sense out of it."

Congress' Bharat Jodo Yatra under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi was earlier scheduled to enter Madhya Pradesh from Maharashtra on Sunday night, but now it has been postponed till Wednesday morning.

Rahul Gandhi will visit Gujarat on Monday and Tuesday to campaign for the assembly elections.

During his fortnight-long visit to the Malwa-Nimar region of Madhya Pradesh, Rahul Gandhi will pass through six districts and 25-30 assembly constituencies in the southwest and west of the state.

Rahul Gandhi will offer prayers at the Omkareshwar temple in Khandwa district this month and later at the Mahakal temple in Ujjain in the first week of December.
