A mother and daughter in the United States were fishing in the Mississippi River when a giant snapping turtle swam towards them, scaring them.

According to the "Daily Star" report, 67-year-old Holm (Shala Holm) and her daughter Avery (Avery) went fishing in a canoe on the Sissippi River. Holm recalled the incident, he took a photo with his mobile phone in a panic, and the snapping turtle left after a while.

"As it got closer, we realized how huge it was. It dived under the canoe and stuck its long nails into the fish cage. We were really terrified."

Holm later sent the photo to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Professionals estimated that the snapping turtle was more than 29 inches (about 75 centimeters) long and at least 15 years old. The sharp claws were not for attack. Instead, they are used to dig and grab food.

Adult snapping turtles can grow up to 80 centimeters in carapace, with an average weight of 80 kilograms and a bite force of 456 kilograms, which is greater than the 412 kilograms of the great white shark. It is second only to crocodiles among aquatic animals.

Most of them usually lurk in the water and do not take the initiative to attack when feeding.
