Train passengers in Britain were warned to expect delays after speed restrictions were put in place on some routes due to forecasts of torrential rain amid ongoing flooding that has caused chaos on roads and rail across the country, BTA said.

Scottish rail operator Scot Rail has said rainfall is expected to exceed the monthly average today, after torrential rains lashed Cornwall.

A flood warning is in place from Birmingham and Lincoln to Hull, North Wales, Liverpool and Manchester, and along the east coast to the Scottish border.
