The Dodoma City Council has entered into an agreement with a company from Zimbabwe that will process waste from the landfill and obtain gas and fertilizer.

The Mayor of Dodoma City, Professor Davis Mwamfupe said this yesterday during the cleaning exercise held at the Bonanza market as part of the national cleanliness celebrations.

He said that the Dodoma City Council has entered into an agreement with a company from Zimbabwe that will be processing waste in the main landfill located in the Chidaya area and obtain gas and fertilizer.

He said the processing will make the collected garbage part of the economic opportunity.

He also said that many citizens of Dodoma love cleanliness and taking care of the environment, but what is required is to coordinate their work.

"For the management of the market, the leadership of the locality to ensure that they put in place the management, cleanliness is a habit, it is good for the citizens to have the habit of cleaning their areas," he said.

He also ordered the citizens who put the culverts in front of the ditches to break them so that the water can flow.

"If they want to put bridges near their places of business, they should put steel ones because they have the ability to pass water, they should do it immediately because I will go to check if they have been removed," he said.

Chamwino Ward Councillor, Jumanne Ngede said that the ward ranks sixth in cleanliness.

"We have taken the Mayor's orders for the culverts built on the rainwater drainage ditches to be demolished so that the water does not overflow, we will take care of that," he said.

He said that citizens have been coming forward to clean but more strategies are needed so that citizens can change their attitudes and see that the issue of cleanliness is important for everyone.

Acting Director of Preventive Services Ministry of Health, Dr. Beatrice Mutayoba said there is a great response of people to come forward to do cleaning activities that help to take care of water sources on the ground and other benefits.
