Bulgarian European Commissioner Maria Gabriel

Maria Ivanova Gabriel was born on May 20, 1979 in Gotse Delchev. In 1997, Ezikova graduated and organized the first seminar of its kind "Culture: an engine for health and well-being in the EU" together with the European Parliament.

Representatives of the World Health Organization, MEPs and cultural figures from all over Europe took part in the seminar in Brussels, which she co-chaired with the chairman of the Committee on Education and Culture in the European Parliament Sabine Verheyen, reported the press center of the Representation of the EC in Bulgaria. 

"Culture and creativity are the oxygen of Europe.

They have the power to both unite people and have a positive impact on our state of health - both physical and mental health.

That is why it is important to invest more and more in connecting the two sectors - culture and healthcare - at the European level.

Today's seminar is an important step in this direction," said Maria Gabriel

Commissioner Gabriel outlined his leading initiatives in support of culture and creativity.

"It is a fact that in three years we made culture so high on the European agenda for the first time," noted the Bulgarian European Commissioner.

Examples are leading programs such as "Creative Europe" and "Horizon Europe", the project "CultureForHealth" and the structural dialogue "Voices of the cultural sector", in which a record number of over 50 organizations from the sectors of health, culture and education participated.
