In 2023, under the operational programs of the EU, Bulgaria will be able to receive financing in the amount of up to BGN 3.4 billion.

This became clear after the tripartite negotiations on the European Union's annual budget ended late last night.

For the seventh year, the only Bulgarian in the negotiations between the European Commission, the Council of the EU and the European Parliament is the Bulgarian MEP from GERB

MEP Andrey Novakov: Ukraine will not pay the interest on the 18 billion euro aid from the EU

"In 2023, our country will receive payments only for projects already started years ago from the old program period.

The current period 2021-2027 has practically not started in our country, because until recently we did not have a single approved program, and not a single project was sent for preliminary approval.

This actually means that, in terms of cohesion policy, to date our country is still a net donor and does not expect any payments from Brussels," said Novakov.

The financing approved for Bulgaria is intended for already started investments and projects under the Structural and Cohesion Fund, as well as the Common Agricultural Policy.

According to the European Commission's preliminary estimates, Bulgaria can expect up to BGN 1.9 billion in total for transport and urban infrastructure, business and innovation support, environment, employment and education. The funds come from the European Regional Development Fund, the Cohesion Fund, the European Social Fund and the Youth Employment Initiative.

Up to BGN 890 million is planned for the development of rural areas and agriculture, and up to BGN 1.5 billion for direct payments and market measures to support farmers. Up to BGN 268 million is planned under the REACT-EU mechanism for recovery from the covid pandemic.

This will also be the last year in which the state will be able to benefit from payments under the instrument.

The total size of the EU budget for 2023 amounts to EUR 169 billion.

Earlier, the European Parliament voted and adopted its position for negotiations on the budget, in which Andrey Novakov
