After February 24 this year, the Russian Army will leave the city of Kherson, the only regional center it captured in Ukraine.
According to APA, the commander of the Russian troops in Ukraine, Sergey Surovik, said in a meeting with the Minister of Defense Sergey Shoigu that the Russian Armed Forces are withdrawing to the defense along the left bank of the Dnieper River.
Sergey Surovikin said that if Ukraine releases more water from the reservoir or launches a more powerful rocket attack on the Kakhov dam, a large area will be flooded, the number of victims among the population will increase, and the units of the Russian Army will be completely isolated on the banks of the Dnieper River.
According to him, under the existing conditions, it is more appropriate to retreat to the defensive line along the left bank of the Dnieper.
Sergei Shoigu, in turn, ordered the troops to withdraw.
It should be noted that the city of Kherson is the center of the Kherson region located in the south of Ukraine.
The city is located on the right bank of the Dnieper River, 25 km from the mouth of the river.
Kherson is one of the four provinces annexed by Russia.
