On the occasion of the incident on the Bulgarian-Turkish border, in which a Bulgarian border policeman died in the area of ​​the village of Golyam Dervent, Elhovo municipality, Deputy Minister Konstantin Kodjabashev held an extraordinary meeting today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Bulgaria Aileen Sekizkök.

Deputy Minister Kojabashev asked the Turkish diplomat the question of expected full cooperation from Turkey to clarify the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

He called on the Turkish authorities to fulfill their duties in protecting the security of the border between the two countries.

In the course of the conversation, the Bulgarian side took into account the previous level of cooperation between the two countries.

The deputy minister proposed the creation of a joint commission to clarify the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

It was stated that Bulgaria expects the Turkish side to make additional efforts to increase security along our common border.

For his part, Ambassador Sekizkök expressed his condolences and confirmed the readiness of the authorities in Turkey to cooperate with the Bulgarian institutions, assuring that all necessary measures have already been taken to reveal the perpetrators of the crime, as well as to strengthen the security of our common border.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs offers its condolences to the relatives and friends of the deceased Bulgarian border guard.
