Russian aviation bombed a camp of the Syrian opposition near Idlib, as a result of which at least nine civilians were killed.

The Voice of America reports this with reference to the Civil Defense Service of the Syrian opposition and the words of eyewitnesses.

It is noted that three children and a woman were among the dead, more than 70 people were injured and taken to field hospitals.

According to witnesses, warplanes backed by Syrian army artillery also dropped bombs on forests near temporary camps west of Idlib.

"There are no military bases, no warehouses, no rebel barracks here. Only civilians," said Seraj Ibrahim, who works for the Western-backed White Helmets rescue group.

At the same time, Russia, together with its Syrian allies, traditionally justified their actions with statements that they attacked the shelters of armed groups, and denied strikes on civilians.

It is worth noting that more than 4 million people live in the densely populated area along the Syrian-Turkish border controlled by the opposition.

Most of them ended up there as a result of Russian-led military operations against the Syrian opposition.

We will remind that the war in Syria has been going

on since 2011

.

Then mass protests against the regime of President Bashar al-Assad began on the streets of Deraa, Damascus and Aleppo.

The participants demanded democratic reforms and the release of political prisoners.

Anti-government rallies later turned into war.

Government forces brutally suppressed the rallies, but already in July 2011, the military from the Armed Forces announced the formation of the Free Syrian Army, a rebel group that seeks to overthrow the government.

In 2015,

on the side of Bashar al-Assad, Russia launched an intervention in Syria, mercilessly bombarding cities, controlled positions, using chemical weapons and killing civilians.

After that, government troops took control of most of the country.

In addition to Moscow, the Assad regime is also supported by Tehran.

Over the past two years, the intensity of hostilities has been decreasing.

The preparation and initiation of the Russian Federation's full-scale invasion of Ukraine also played a big role in this.
