Another US citizen, Timothy Griffin, who fought as part of the International Legion, died during the hostilities in Ukraine.

This is reported by NBC News with reference to the spokeswoman of the legion.

Griffin took part in the Ukrainian counteroffensive on the eastern front.

The spokeswoman of the legion reported that Griffin's unit was attacked by the forces of the Russian Federation.

The American was killed during the battle.

"We are in contact with (Timothy Griffin's) family, and the International Legion and the Armed Forces of Ukraine are working with the family on the repatriation process, following their wishes and instructions," said a spokeswoman for the International Legion.

The Legion declined to provide further details about Griffin, including his age, citing operational security and privacy concerns.

But two people who knew about Griffin's death told the newspaper on condition of anonymity that the man was from New York state and fought in the Kharkiv region.

"Timothy's memory will live on in his unit, in the Legion and the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the International Legion said, adding that they ask "to respect the family's privacy at this difficult time."

The State Department said it was "aware of unconfirmed reports" about a US citizen killed in Ukraine, but "refused to comment further due to confidentiality concerns."

According to various sources, Griffin became the sixth or eighth US citizen to die while helping Ukraine fight for freedom.
