The Polish border guard announced yesterday an increase in migrants from the Middle East trying to cross illegally into the European Union through the Polish-Belarusian border, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.

In the last 24 hours, border officials detained 117 migrants from Syria, Yemen, Egypt, Iraq, Cameroon, Morocco and Sri Lanka, and 65 people were detained the previous day.

So far, Belarusian border authorities have not responded to requests for comment on the subject.

Last week, the Polish border service released a video from October 26, which appears to show what appear to be Belarusian border guards near the border with Poland leading a group of migrants and trying to hide their faces from the cameras.

The Polish border service said Belarusian border guards are helping migrants cross into Poland, and most migrants travel first to Russia and from there by organized transport to Belarus.

"Belarusian border guards are actively involved in organizing crossings at the Polish-Belarusian border, bringing people who want to enter the EU illegally," the Polish border service pointed out.

This increase in refugee flows comes just a year after thousands of migrants, most of them from the Middle East, appeared in Belarus and tried to breach the EU border, creating a crisis where thousands of them were stranded in the border area in very harsh conditions , AP points out.
