Seoul and Washington have completed their six-day "Vigilant Storm" military exercise, during which American B-1B strategic supersonic bombers flew over the territory of South Korea, world agencies reported.

The Vigilante Storm exercise began on Monday, involving about 240 military aircraft and two US B-1B strategic bombers, as well as four F-16 and four F-35A fighter jets.

This is the first time since 2017 that a B-1B bomber has participated in joint US-South Korean exercises.

This shows the "combined defense capabilities and determination of the Republic of Korea and the United States to resolutely respond to any provocations from North Korea, as well as the readiness of the United States" to implement enhanced deterrence measures, the statement added.

Yesterday, Pyongyang asked the United States and South Korea to stop "provocative" air exercises.

North Korea fired four short-range ballistic missiles into the Yellow Sea this morning.

They flew about 130 km at an altitude of about 20 km, according to data from the South Korean army.

North Korea launched four ballistic missiles

North Korea has carried out a series of missile launches this week, one of which may have been a failed attempt to launch an intercontinental ballistic missile.

These actions were condemned by Washington, Seoul and Tokyo.

The missile launch has led to speculation that North Korea may be preparing to resume nuclear tests for the first time since 2017, BTA notes.
