Argentina's federal police arrested an Italian mob boss on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, ending a years-long manhunt, Reuters reported.

Carmine Alfonso Maiorano, the 68-year-old leader of Italy's 'Ndrangheta mafia, was captured last Wednesday in the city of Guernica in the province of Buenos Aires.

Italian-born Maiorano is accused by international authorities of running drug and arms trafficking operations between Latin America and Europe.

Interpol considers the 'Ndrangheta to be one of the largest and most powerful criminal organizations in the world. An international arrest warrant was issued for Maiorano in 2015, and in 2020 Interpol began efforts to coordinate international efforts to dismantle the criminal group.
