[Instant News/Comprehensive Report] Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin appealed to Hungary and Turkey today (1), hoping that the two countries could approve Sweden and Finland's applications for joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) as soon as possible.

NATO currently has 30 member states. According to NATO regulations, if a new member is to be admitted, the unanimous consent of all member states must be obtained.

At present, only Hungary and Turkey have not yet approved the admission of Sweden and Finland.

"All eyes are now on Hungary and Turkey. We are waiting for these countries to approve our application, and I think it's best to do this as soon as possible," Reuters reported. It happens, and that's important."

Sweden and Finland decided in May to abandon their non-aligned line and apply to join NATO following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, but Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has continued to get in the way by claiming Sweden harbors terrorists.
