The head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, publicly appealed to the leadership of Russia with a warning that if nuclear components are used in the war against Ukraine, there will be a serious response from the world.

The US Defense Minister said this during a press conference at the Pentagon on October 27.

"If this happens (the use of nuclear weapons - ed.), you will see a very

serious response from the international community

," Austin said, addressing the Russian authorities.

He emphasized that this issue is very important for the world, because it is about the risk of a nuclear strike for the first time in the last more than 70 years.

According to the minister, such a step

can potentially change the situation for the world

as a whole.

"Even talking about the use of such weapons is dangerous and irresponsible," the head of the Pentagon said.

He also said that the USA is concerned about the escalation that is taking place on the part of the Russian Federation, since the very beginning of the large-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Therefore, in order to manage risks, Austin emphasized the importance of maintaining communication with both allies, partners, and adversaries.

At the same time, the US Secretary of Defense reported that there are currently

no signs

that Russian President Vladimir Putin has decided to use nuclear weapons or a "dirty bomb."

Answering a question about what capabilities the US has to deter Russian nuclear threats, the head of the Pentagon said that the country has a significant nuclear potential, and the Kremlin is aware of its scope.

Nuclear threat from the Russian Federation

The possibility of Russia's use of nuclear weapons against Ukraine is currently unlikely, said Andriy Yusov, the spokesman for the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

He added that this is the last trump card of the Russian Federation in the war against Ukraine, but it will not stop the struggle of the state.

The day before, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that his country had warned Putin about the consequences for Russia in the event of a nuclear attack on Ukraine.

In turn, Putin himself declared that Russia allegedly does not need a "nuclear strike on Ukraine".

At the same time, the head of the Kremlin once again accused Ukraine of creating a "dirty bomb".
