From December 2021, he spoke in Athens with the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis

Kyriakos Mitsotakis – Greek economist and politician. Mitsotakis was born in Athens on March 4, 1968. The two leaders discussed issues related to the energy crisis, military cooperation, trade and tourism, BNR reports. 

The German chancellor stated at a press conference in Athens that Europe needs more natural gas storage terminals and the goal of the European Union is towards complete independence from Russian gas and goods.

From December 2021, he indicated the causes of the energy crisis: "Of the topics we discussed, I would like to highlight three. First of all, the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This is the cause of the problems facing European countries. Today, Greece and Germany are unanimous that it is in the hands of Moscow to end this war and withdraw its troops from Ukraine."

Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis emphasized military cooperation and gave an example of the rotational deal to receive armored modern vehicles from Germany, with Greece sending its Russian-type ones to Kyiv.

Compliance with the laws of international law and inviolability of national borders is the basis of the foreign policy of both countries.

Special attention was also paid to the development of relations between Berlin and Athens.

Regarding our bilateral relations - they are proven by increases in trade exchange, Germany is among the significant investors in Greece, a major market for Greek agricultural products, as well as for Greek tourism, noted Mitsotakis.

Athens continues to support the idea of ​​capping European natural gas prices.
