Overhead power lines with a length of 52 kilometers will be laid underground, which will eliminate the risks for wild birds in the area of the Burgas wetlands.

The activity will be carried out within the framework of the project "Safe Network for Burgas Lakes", which is implemented by "Electrical Distribution South", part of EVN (EVN) in partnership with the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPS).

Funding is provided under the LIFE program of the European Union.

EVN announced that the construction of 18 new substations and 1 new node station in the Burgas region is pending.

The total value of the project is nearly 5.5 million euros, with 75 percent of the funds provided by the European Commission, and 25 percent by "Electrical Distribution South".

As part of the project, protective insulation will be installed on 2,000 poles from the network, as well as on 2,000 diverters on overhead power lines.

Through them, the probability of flying birds colliding with the overhead wires is reduced.
