The new assessment, drawn up in the European Commission's inspection of Bulgaria and Romania on the application of Schengen rules recently, showed that both countries are more than ready to join the European space without border checks.

This was stated today by an EC spokesperson at a press conference in response to a question.

Since 2011, the EC has been insisting on the expansion of Schengen, the spokesperson pointed out.

According to the commission, Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia have fulfilled all the necessary requirements to join.

An assessment was recently carried out in Bulgaria and Romania, organized and coordinated by the EC, with the participation of representatives of the EU countries, he noted.

It was confirmed that Bulgaria and Romania are more than ready to join Schengen.

The results are extremely positive, no problem was identified that would justify further delay, the spokesman added.

According to him, all EU countries recognize the enormous achievements of Bulgaria and Romania in the implementation of Schengen rules.

The Czech Presidency will quickly move the issue forward, the spokesperson explained.

The EU Council's Working Party on Schengen issues considered these findings in a closed session yesterday.

The Czech Presidency intends to put the matter to a vote at a meeting of the EU Council on 8 December.

A positive decision requires unanimity.
