Chhath, the great festival of public faith, is starting from the Chaturthi date of Kartik Shukla Paksha this year.

Chhath festival is celebrated on Kartik Shukla Shashthi Tithi.

This is the reason why this festival is called Surya Shashthi.

Chhath festival is mainly celebrated in Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh with great pomp and gaiety.

In Chhath Puja, Chhathi Maiya and Sun God are worshipped.

Arghya is offered to the rising and setting sun.

Women worship the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya for 36 hours of Nirjala fast for the longevity and happy life of their children.

First day of Chhath Puja (Nahay Khay – 28 October 2022, Friday) 

On the first day of Chhath Puja, one has to take bath.

According to the Panchang, this date is called Kartik Shukla Chaturthi.

On this day fasting women follow some special rules.

On this day, the devotees make arrangements for the cleanliness of their house and the materials for worship.

Along with this, after taking bath on this day, Chhath fasts eat sattvik food.

After which other members of the family eat food. 

Second day of Chhath Puja (Kharna- 29 October 2022, Saturday) 

According to the date, the Kharna of Chhath festival falls on Kartik Shukla Panchami.

This year the Kharna of Chhath festival is falling on Saturday, October 29.

On the day of Kharna, fasting women keep fast for the whole day.

Along with this, fasting women take bath on this day and prepare Prasad for Chhathi Maiya.

Pure pots and earthen stoves are used to prepare offerings for Chhathi Maiya and Surya.

Apart from this, jaggery pudding is made on an earthen stove in the evening on this day.

Which is distributed among the members of the house after the evening worship.

The fasting herself also consumes this kheer.

Third day of Chhath Puja (Arghya to the setting sun – 30 October, Sunday)

The Shashthi Tithi of Kartik Shukla Paksha is very special.

The fasting prepares prasad and dishes for worship on this day in the afternoon.

Thekua, puri, etc. are specially prepared as prasad on this day.

In the evening everyone goes to Chhath Ghat.

Arghya is offered to the setting sun there.

The time of sunset is 5:37 in the evening.

Fourth day of Chhath Puja (Arghya to the rising sun, October 31, 2022) 

Arghya is offered to the rising Sun on Kartik Shukla Saptami Tithi.

On this day, devotees and devotees stand in the water before sunrise with coconut and incense in their hands and wait for the rising of Lord Sun.

Arghya is offered to the Sun God at sunrise.

After which all the fasting women break the fast by consuming prasad.

Sunrise time is 6.31 am in the morning.
