German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that when deciding whether to provide tanks to Ukraine, Germany also takes into account the opinion of those countries that oppose the sanctions against the Russian Federation and the supply of weapons to Kyiv.

The German leader said this in an interview with Welt.

"Logistics, spare parts, ammunition for these tanks of Russian or post-Soviet production are in Ukraine. We are trying to supply from other countries. But the fact remains: the question of which weapons we supply is

based on a very clear principle - not to act alone

," he said.

According to Scholtz, 20-30% of German society is against anti-Russian sanctions and the supply of arms to Ukraine.

Therefore, he also takes into account the opinion of the citizens of Germany when making a decision.

"I argue with those who doubt and explain the reasons for our decisions, so that both will be convinced of this. There are very many people who believe that the balanced course of the government is the right one. So the opinion is very wide. We must not let it go out of the field sight, if we want to hold together as a society," Scholz explained.

Germany's promises to provide tanks to the Armed Forces

On October 8, German Defense Minister Kristina Lambrecht announced the provision of a total of 100 tanks from Greece and Slovakia, as well as the IRIS-T air defense system to Ukraine.

On October 11, the head of the Ministry of Defense, Oleksiy Reznikov, announced that Germany had transferred IRIS-T to Ukraine, which are already in use on the territory of Ukraine.

As for the tanks, there is still no supply of them.

German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht said that

Germany will transfer to Ukraine a large amount of previously promised military equipment by the end of the year

.

We will remind you that on September 25, the German parliament failed to vote for the decision to transfer

tanks

 and armored vehicles to Ukraine.

The document allowed for the immediate shipment of tanks and armored personnel carriers from industrial stocks to Ukraine, and also required the supply of additional heavy weapons to Ukraine.
