Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram said whatever the critics kept saying, Mallikarjun Kharge is "the chosen boss and will remain the boss".

Asked if he would be able to assert his rights with the Gandhi family and party workers, the Rajya Sabha MP said, "The Gandhi family will work with him and help him to exercise his rights."

In a special conversation with NDTV, he said, 'He (Mallikarjun Kharge) will consult everyone.

He will consult young, senior leaders.

They have clarified that they will have a counseling system.

He is the chosen boss and will be the boss.

However, Chidambaram clarified that the Gandhi family may still have a bigger role to play.

"Gandhis have a lot of influence on the party. They have never had a closed-door approach," he said.

Let us tell you, more than 80 percent senior leaders of the party from across the country chose Kharge for the post of Congress President.

At the same time, Shashi Tharoor, who is an advocate of change, got about 16 percent votes. 

However, Chidambaram says that the impact of this organizational election may be less visible.

Hitting out at the BJP, Chidambaram said, "BJP is a closed-door party... The less said about regional parties, the better."
