The trend observed in a number of European countries is also reported in Croatia - the number of pensioners who take advantage of the opportunity to work part-time increases every year.

And their longer stay in the field of work will be further encouraged through new laws and proposals for work on a special portal, Croatian media reported, BTA reported.

In recent years, the labor market in Croatia has changed and today there is an increasing demand for working pensioners in various sectors.

That there is a need for pensioners in the labor market is also shown by the data of the Croatian Pension Insurance Institute (HZMO) from the end of August 2022, when 23,640 pensioners used their legal right to work part-time without stopping their pension.

This option was introduced in 2014. In 2019, there were 10,098 working pensioners, last year – 14,679, and by 2022, 21,566 pensioners are currently working.

Until now, pensioners have looked for work themselves and solved problems with their employers

.

These shortcomings have been noted by the Union of Pensioners and in cooperation with the Croatian Institute for Pension Insurance and the Croatian Employment Service (HZZ), the Union is working to create a platform on the employment of citizens in the third age.

The platform should start operating by the beginning of November, and the Croatian Employment Service and its employees will provide the necessary information and support to those in need.

This will probably lead to a further increase in the number of working pensioners.

Retirees most often work in wholesale and retail trade and in activities related to the repair of cars and motorcycles - 4,059 of them, or 17 percent of the total.

They are followed by those working in scientific and technical activities, in the processing industry, in administrative and auxiliary activities, construction, in activities related to the accommodation of guests - hotels and private accommodations, in the preparation and serving of food.

Twice as many men took advantage of the opportunity to work - 15,433, and women - 8,207, although they have lower pensions on average.

Most of the workers who also receive a pension are aged around 66, with most of them working in Zagreb, followed by the Primorje-Gorski Kotar, Split-Dalmatia and Istria regions.

In Croatia, men are entitled to an old-age pension at the age of 65 and at least 15 years of work experience, and women at the age of 63 and also at least 15 years of work experience.
