Newly-elected Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said, "The biggest problem in the country is unemployment, inflation. Hatred is being spread by the government. The gap between rich and poor is increasing."

Mallikarjun Kharge said, "Congratulations Shashi Tharoor, together we will take the party forward. I really liked it. I express my gratitude to Sonia Gandhi. Under her leadership, the government was formed twice at the Center and in many states."

Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge has been elected as the new national president of the party.

After about 24 years, a leader from outside the Gandhi family was elected the president of the country's oldest party. 

A total of 9,385 votes were cast for the Congress President's election, out of which 416 votes were declared invalid.

Mallikarjun Kharge got 7,897 votes out of 8,969 valid votes, while Shashi Tharoor got the remaining 1,072 votes.
