Every effort is being made to have free and fair elections.

New Delhi:

Party leader Jairam Ramesh on Monday refuted allegations that Mallikarjun Kharge was a fake candidate in the elections to select the Congress President as a non-Gandhi leader after decades.

The election was held after much deliberation, three years after Sonia Gandhi agreed to temporarily lead the party after Rahul Gandhi stepped down, with Shashi Tharoor and Mallikarjun Kharge in direct contest.

Mallikarjun Kharge, who filed his nomination at the last minute, was supported by the party's central leaders after Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot was ousted from the race.

Due to this there was a round of speculations that the Gandhi family has fielded Kharge after seeing his convenience in the field and after winning the election, he will run him according to his own.

However, in an exclusive interview to NDTV, Jairam Ramesh has denied any such situation.

He said, "Rahul Gandhi has also denied such situation while answering these questions in Karnataka."

He said, "Such remarks are made by critics of Congress. But there are two competent persons competing in the election and 9,000 delegates will decide their fate. The process is being monitored. Everyone is trying to make it a free and fair election," he said. Efforts are being made. We are the only party with an independent election authority."

On Shashi Tharoor's remark that "there is no equal election ground", he said that all efforts were made to ensure that the election is transparent, with no bias and no bias." Ramesh said that the allegation is ultimately the allegation. Huh.
