[Central News Agency] Russian media quoted the Russian Ministry of Defense statement as saying that a Russian Sukai 34 fighter plane crashed in the southwestern town of Yeysk, near the Ukrainian border, setting a local residential building on fire, killing at least 3 people died.

"On October 17, 2022, a Sukai 34 (SU-34) fighter plane crashed while taking off from the military airfield of the Southern Military District for flight training," the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"One of the engines of the Sukai 34 caught fire during takeoff," the Defense Ministry statement said.

Photos circulated on social media showed a 9-story residential building raging on fire.

Russian emergency services said the fire burned more than 2,000 square meters.

At least three people were killed and 19 injured in the crash, Russian media reported, citing local authorities.

The Kremlin told TASS news agency that Russian President Vladimir Putin had been informed of the crash and had ordered "all necessary assistance to be provided to the casualties of the military plane accident".
