Paris:

There was a fierce commotion in Tehran's infamous Evin Prison on Saturday night.

A fire broke out in the jail and the struggle ensued.

This movement has entered its fifth week in protest against the custodial death of Mahsa Amini.

Located in northern Tehran, the prison is notorious for its mistreatment of political prisoners and also houses foreign prisoners.

Hundreds of people detained during protests over Amini's death have reportedly been sent to this jail.

In video footage shared on Twitter by Oslo-based Iran Human Rights, gunshots can be heard and plumes of flames and smoke can be seen in the sky during the night.

1500tasvir, a social media channel that tracks demonstrations and police violations, said on Twitter

that "fire is spreading in Evin Prison" and "explosion heard".

Slogans of "tyrant ki death" can be heard in the video.

This is one of the main slogans of the month-long protests that erupted after Amini's death.

The Islamic republic and IRGC are staging a conflagration in the #Evin prison to kill political prisoners!

Amini, 22, died on September 16, three days after she fell into a coma following her arrest by Iranian police for alleged violation of the Islamic Republic's strict dress code for women.

Iran's state media, citing a senior security official, said clashes broke out at the prison on Saturday night and that "rioters" had set it on fire.

"Currently the situation is completely under control," the IRNA news agency reported, reporting at least eight injured.
