In August this year, milk suppliers Amul and Mother Dairy had announced an increase in the prices of their milk by Rs 2 per litre.

Both Amul and Mother Dairy had raised milk prices for the second time in the last six months.

Earlier in early March, both had increased the prices of milk by Rs 2 per liter.

The Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which sells milk and other dairy products under the Amul brand, said it has reduced milk prices by Rs 2 per liter in Gujarat's Ahmedabad and Saurashtra, Delhi-NCR, West Bengal, Mumbai and other markets. decided to increase the.

A hike of Rs 2 per liter would lead to a four per cent increase in the MRP (maximum retail price), which is lower than the average food inflation, a statement said.

GCMMF had said that this price increase is being done due to increase in the total cost of operation and production of milk.

Compared to the previous year alone, the cost of animal feed has increased by about 20 percent.

In view of the increase in the cost of production, our member unions have also increased the prices for farmers by 8-9 percent as compared to last year.

The cooperative society pays about 80 paise of every rupee paid by consumers for milk and milk products to milk producers.

GCMMF had said that the price revision will help in maintaining remunerative milk prices for our milk producers and encourage them to produce higher milk.
