The head of the Bundestag defense committee, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmerman, criticized the statement of the head of the German Chancellor's administration,

Wolfgang

Schmidt, who compared Leopard 2 tanks with Nazi V-2 missiles in the context of the transfer of equipment to Ukraine.

The German portal Spiegel writes about it.

"I would like to offer Wolfgang Schmidt a collegial introduction to weapons. Then he will quickly understand that the comparison with Nazi weapons is not only completely inappropriate, but also simply incorrect," said Strack-Zimmerman.

At the event in Berlin, Schmidt defended the government's position not to send tanks to Ukraine to fight against the Russian Federation.

He said that the Leopard 2 is now hoped for in the same way that the Nazis hoped for the V-2 missile in the last century.

"Sometimes I tend to call it the V2 syndrome of the Germans, that there is a miracle weapon that, as if by a wave of a magic wand, does everything possible. And now the Leopard 2 is the miracle weapon that will end the war," said Schmidt.

Note that in Nazi terminology V2 stands for Vergeltungswaffe 2. It literally translates as "revenge weapon".

Nazi Germany used it many times against civilian targets.

What is known about military aid from Germany

On October 8, German Defense Minister Kristina Lambrecht announced the provision of a total of 100 tanks from Greece and Slovakia, as well as the IRIS-T air defense system to Ukraine.

Already on October 11, Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov announced that Germany had transferred IRIS-T to Ukraine.

He added that the American NASAMS medium-range air defense systems are "already on their way."

The IRIS-T air defense system has very powerful characteristics, noted the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The complex has good radar and missiles.
