On Saturday, October 15, the mayor of the Hungarian capital city of Budapest, Gergey Korachon, sharply criticized the Hungarian government and its leader Viktor Orbán.

He accused the country's prime minister, who is called a friend of Putin, of lying about the benefits of buying gas from Russia.

The corresponding statement appeared on the Facebook page of the mayor of Budapest.

Gergey Korachon said that Viktor Orbán's government is putting the country on the side of the losers and harming Hungary's economy.

"What has happened many times in Hungarian history is happening again: the government is not only putting the country on the wrong side of history, but also putting it on the losing side.

The fact that they cannot distinguish the aggressor from the victim is not only - although this would be enough - morally unjustified, but also economically harmful.

Because cheap Russian gas is a lie," the post reads.

He noted that Orbán's agreements with Putin only harm the country and do not benefit Hungarians.

"Putin gives gas to Hungary at a very high price, and our increased utility bills only enrich Putin.

In fact, the utility rebate was cut by a long-term gas purchase contract signed last summer that has nothing to do with either the war or the sanctions, which have nothing to do with the gas trade.

Therefore, we get nothing for the irresponsible policies of the government.

We have to get out of Putin's shadow, we have to switch from fossil energy to renewable energy, we have to choose energy independence instead of energy dependence," Korachon stressed.

It will be recalled that the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, said that the citizens of his country should prepare for a protracted war in Europe due to the erroneous actions of the EU authorities.
